Geotherapy

It is called geotherapy due to the use of soil (clay or mud) for medicinal purposes as it serves to improve health in numerous pathologies.

Clay has several different properties, one of them being its cooling capacity. It is an anti-inflammatory and it also helps to heal scars.

The collection of soil is crucially important so as to be certaint that it is completely free of any waste and animal excrement.

How it’s used

The clay or mud is mixed with water forming a cataplasm and applied directly on the skin.
First we must consider what the problem is that needs to be treated. For example, if it is an infection, imflammation, a sore, or sprain.
The clay or mud is placed on the affected area with a thickness of approximately 0.5 centimeters. A band or bandage is placed around it to keep it intact for 2 hours or more or until dry.

Properties of its usage

Clay is one of the most powerful antiseptic and bactericides out there. It has great potential in healing scars. It regenerates the skin leaving very little sign of any marks. Thanks to its porosity it has a powerful capability of absorbtion. It is able to absorb great amounts of heat. Acting as a filter it expulses anything unwanted from under the skin also purifying the blood.

It is therefore understood its access, processes and tendency to suppurate, to extract, purify and disinfect any decomposing wound.

It stimulates the skin fixating and destroying the uric acid. It is soothing if applied on painful areas, an acute superficial inflammation, bruises, bites, burns, etc. It’s refreshing and it is an anti inflammatory.

The medicinal properties of clay

Absorption of toxins

Its immense absorptive capacity is one of the most strongest and striking qualities. Its ability to absorb provides a detoxifying effect on both the interior and exterior of the body.

Heat absorption

Clay applied to the skin provides an immediate cooling effect because it has an extraordinary ability to absorb and retain heat. This effect is particularly useful for any kind of pain or inflammation. It activates the circulatory system, decongesting and reducing inflammation.

Antibiotic

Instinctively,  animals use mud to heal their wounds, not only for its anti-inflammatory effect, but its ability to reduce the effect of bacteria and pathogens.

Remineralization

Thanks to it being rich in minerals and trace elements, clay is a good supply of nutrients for cells, improving their function (both in internal cells and on the skin).
