Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicinal technique that involves the use of the herb Artemisia Vulgaris and the application of heat on acupuncture points for healing purposes. Moxibustion or moxa is one of the most effective and oldest forms of oriental therapy.
METHODS OF APPLICATION
Direct Moxibustion: lit cones, made from Artemisia are placed directly on the corresponding points, in accordance to the prescribed treatment
Indirect Moxibustion: It can be applied in many different ways
Insulated Moxibustion: this method is done in an insulating manner intervening between the skin and the moxi cone.
This is usually with a thickness of approximately 3 mm.
The insulators mostly used for this are slices of garlic or ginger.
Moxibustion done with pure Artemisia: First one end is lit holding it until it approaches the burned point desired- all in accordanance to the treatment.
Moxibustion offers very satisfactory results in patients of all ages. Moxa treatments have shown their effectiveness in relieving chronic pain.
These treatments are indicated in cases of
Joint disorders (such as osteoarthritis or arthritis).
Disorders resulting from cold weather or humidity (stiffness in the lower back).
Stimulate the internal body yang (fatigue).
Regulate the digestive system (nausea, heavy digestions).
Regulate the female reproductive (menstrual disorders) system.
Regulate the Qi (permanent fatigue, fatigue in arms and legs, need for sleep).
Increased production of white blood cells, red blood cells and hemoglobin.
Improved clotting time and ability to generate antibodies.
Improves blood and lymphatic circulation.
Muscle tears, tendonitis, dislocations, swelling.
Breathing problems: bronchitis, asthma, allergies.
